In this hands on Papier mache workshop we decided to create Butterflies, the symbol for our Kaleidoscope Program. The Butterfly is also considered an Animal Totem (animal or spirit guide) of the Native Americans representing transformation, metamorphosis, the ability to accept change. By learning, and creating we take the path of the caterpillar and end up the butterfly. Tonights workshop was all about making choices: What colors to use, what type of wing characteristics and position.

This past Summer we found it very difficult to find an activity program geared toward our 14 year old daughter.... too old for camp and too young to get a summer job !
We heard about Kaleidascope, a summer teen program offered by Beth Costello. I loved the fact that each week there was a different activity / topic, most of which were run by women who were specialists in that area. This was important as it helped my daughter connect with other female professionals to see "what's out there." My daughter, a shy girl, was initially unsure if this was what she wanted to do. BUT I can tell you this.... After every session, she would come home smiling with so much to talk about! The group was small enough that she was comfortable and able to come out of her shell. She did some beautiful artwork, and even had a seminar about feeling empowered / choosing a career... something important when highschoolers have to choose a college and write a college essay ! I would highly recommend Kaleidoscope as a fun, safe, structured program for teens! Thank you, Beth!! From Marie D. |
